Shock Culture
There seems to be a new wave sweeping across the internet. This is the idea of Shock Culture, where it seems that we are trying to show people the most disgusting things that we can imagine or catch on videotape. This may have started on TV, starting with reality bloopers, moved to Jackass and now has Youtube and Youtube spreads the word on other videos or pictures across the internet. What I am referring to is reactions to certain films that I am sure others have come across. These websites are so disgusting that I will not post the address or what the name of the reaction videos are. All I am wondering is what is the deal with this new Shock Culture. I do not like it; however, it is like a train wreck, I keep on looking.

I've come across quite a few nasty things on the internet, usually not meaning to, but something about them prevents me from looking away. Sure it's distasteful but whatever. It's hard to turn your head from some of the things that are out there.
I know exactly what you are talking about...a friend told me to watch a video (that I won't name here) without telling me what it was about. My lunch almost came up the instant the video started. Of course, YouTube tries to prevent obscene videos but if you try to search this dirty video on YouTube the results are a slew of videos of people's reactions to the filth. One I saw a girl had her grandmother watch the video. Average internet users...and unfortunatley their grandmothers...have seen stuff that would otherwise never get to the general population. Ahh the internet.
It is like how people can drive pass a car accident and will take their eyes off the road to look at it. People will watch and or listen to things society finds revolting because it is not something we see everyday which is why it becomes somewhat interesting. Youtube tries to filter out things that are too overrated but this is the internet- people will find a way to do whatever they want.
