Crochet Art

I’m not sure if you remember, but the first class I referenced a friend, whose talent and passion for crochet have gotten him a scholarship to pursue his master’s degree in art at UCSD. I asked him to send pictures of from his first art show out there and I was pretty impressed. His work is not your grandma’s crochet mittens. Check it out and please let me know what you think!!! I'm actually surprised...crocheting is apparently a lot more versitile than what I originally thought, I could definitely see some people thinking "hand crafted" must be worth tons of money. I could see this trend starting to show up in celebs' closets, but I don't know how much staying power it will actually have.

Wow that is definitely not what I had in mind when you were talking about your friend who crochets! Some of those pieces are really interesting; the one titled "Black Women" is actually pretty haunting, which is not a word that people usually associate with crocheting! I think it's really cool that he has taken something that is considered so old-fashioned and created something so modern out of it. I can totally see these on display at an art museum, and maybe even becoming a part of the fashion world as well.

These pieces are very interesting, I didn’t know that crocheting had come so far. When I think of crocheting I usually think of scarves and mittens, certainly not these elaborate pieces of art. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this type of thing at museums, crocheting has been around for a long time it just seems that people have taken the concept to the next level.
