SuperHeroHype.com

SuperHeroHype.com

Superhero Hype, or commonly referred to as "SHH" by fans, is a website that has branched off of ComingSoon.net that devotes itself to news on superhero films.

Not only does SHH provide a website for news but it also has a message boards for fans of various superheroes to discuss their favorite protagonists. Their forums contain various sub-boards for specific heroes like Batman, Superman, and Spiderman, but also other franchises like Transformers.

SHH derives most of its popularity because it serves as a hub for all superhero and comic book fans to unite and discuss their respective heroes. For example, when the trailer for the new Batman film, The Dark Knight, was released, the forums almost crashed due to the volume of people browsing and posting.

Since both comic books/superheroes and film make up the entertainment facet of pop culture, SHH is a fine example of where pop culture is on display. Whenever new trailers, production stills, posters, or other news is released about the major superhero franchises, SuperHeroHype is the place to be to watch fans discuss it.

I was just talking about the "Super Hero Hype" the other day. It seems like since the first Spider Man came out (was that the first super hero movie of recent years? - correct me if I'm wrong) in 2002 it started a crazy phenomenon. For those who might not remember, there was a similar craze that occurred several years earlier (in the late 1990s) with disaster/end of the world movies. Movies like Armageddon and Deep Impact (to name a few) were extremely popular. I then remembered back to a science class during my freshman year of high school in which we discussed how the media, pop culture and science really correlated. When the disaster/end of the world movies were at their peak, a large meteor that was roughly 400,000 miles from earth (relatively not that far in space miles) was discovered, creating a sort of panic in the media: hence, the craze of "doomsday movies". I think the same thing is happening with the "Super hero hype". Spiderman was released in the year following the terrorist attacks of September 11th. The Hollywood film scene is then flooded with super hero/save the world (particularly the U.S.)movies. It's interesting to see the hype of movies from a different perspective and kind of makes you think.... what's more influential??
