Hello Kitty freaks me out also. It's interesting however, that it is so popular overseas. I think that it's one of the many pop culture ideas that just does not transcend across international lines. It's not nearly as popular here as it is in Japan.
I was a Hello Kitty fan in preschool, when it was normal to enjoy little cartoon figures. Now, I just do not understand the craze and am almost disappointed that an icon from my youth has been turned into such an obsession...for adults no less. So instead of recalling pleasant memories from my childhood when I see Hello Kitty, I just have to shake my head.
