Energy Drinks

Over the last couple years, it seems that energy drinks with ridiculous amounts of sugar have become increasingly popular. It started out with the little 8 oz. cans of Red Bull with about 27 grams of sugar and it seems like the cans have just been getting bigger and bigger with more and more sugar. I was watching the Winter X Games recently and, in the span of ten minutes, saw several athletes "conveniently" tipping back some Red Bull, Monster, and Rockstar energy drinks in front of the camera. I guess these companies are trying to portray themselves as extreme and market their product to people who live on the edge. If energy drinks continue to come in bigger cans with more sugar, I'm pretty sure we might actually be drinking rawberry and shockolate at some point (refer to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrPIRYhdnqs). I just hope it never comes to that. Energy drinks seem to be growing in popularity with young people who are either don't like coffee or just want to look cool and spend $2 on a drink. http://www.screamingenergy.com/ shows many different energy drinks and reviews. If one were to just look at the pictures of the energy drinks, it would be pretty easy to see the companies are trying to target young people and have an extreme edge.

I agree there is an overload of the energy drinks in the public eye. It is really becoming our culture to drink new drinks that claim to give you loads of energy. There are tons of new products that claim to boost your energy including "amped" up soft drinks. Last I checked pop already had loads of sugar and caffeine in them...is it really good for your body to be drinking these energy boosters on a regular basis?

Energy drinks are probably the most frequent product placement I see on TV. Just recently I was watching the new American Gladiators and the contestants were sipping some engery drink with the label nice and visable. A couple drinks make me sick and shaky and it never ceases to amaze me when people pound them down and enjoy it. All that sugar and caffeine BLECK! What's awful is that they are pretty pricey and even buying them in packs doesnt give you a deal.

Television is really putting the hype on these energy drinks, I have especially noticed this on MTV, which appeals to a younger audience. I have noticed on two of their shows that there is some sort of focus on the these energy drinks, like on Rob and Big, I think every time I see Rob he’s sporting the Monster Energy Drink shirts and they have a fridge stocked full of it. Also, on Life of Ryan in a recent episode the family was sitting down and every cup on the table was a Red Bull cup. Red Bull even has those special cars that have a Red Bull can on the top of them. I just don’t understand how people can drink these things like they are nothing with all that sugar in them!

I have to admit energy drinks creep me out and don't really understand why they're so popular. I'd much rather have a cup of coffee, can of pop, or even better...8 hours of sleep.

About two years ago I started drinking Sobe Adrenaline Rush at the start of my first class of the day. Since them I`ve become totally dependent on them to think before noon everyday no matter what time I wake up or what time I go to bed the night before.

I also get huge caffeine headaches whenever I go without a caffeinated drink for about 12 hours. This isn`t totally due to energy drinks, as I like drinking soda as well, but the energy drinks do play a huge roll in my caffeine addiction.

I guess what I`m trying to say is that if you like energy drinks like I do, drink them in moderation.
