Lately I have been hearing more and more people talk about Perez Hilton's web-site. I had never looked at it before so I decided that I should probably check it out. What I found was, to me, sort of sad. On the page are articles about celebrities with their pictures included. Although I will admit I love to read the dirt on celebs, I feel that this page takes it too far. The pictures of the celebs have been written on with words such as "Pills," "Flying High," and "I love Swag." I can see how some people would find this funny, but I actually find it pretty sad. I don't mind that Perez is writing articles about these celebrities, because honestly, who doesn't like to read about their latest messups? But I think actually calling these celebrities names and making fun of them goes a bit too far. I know that celebrities put themselves in these situations by being famous, but is it really fair to make fun of all of their life decisions? Poor Britney Spears. The paparazzi and chasers have basically driven her to maddness, and I think that web-sites and articles like Perez Hilton are definitely behind it. I can't blame people for wanting to read the behind the scenes stories on these celebrities, but sometimes I feel like people care more about the mistakes of the news than the mistakes our government makes. Just a thought.

I, too, had never ventured to actually see what this Perez Hilton was all about, despite the unending references to the site. Your blog post finally pushed me to check it out, and I completely agree with you. I'm really quite baffled about the unbelievable popularity of this site. Not only is it so inane that it can't even count as gossip, but it's not even entertaining!
I am almost embarassed to admit that I am an entertainment junkie. Anytime I sit in front of the television the first channel I turn to is E!. From MTV news to the Daily Ten and E!news, I watch it all. I've even been known to look around TMZ at times in addition to picking up practically every magazine that there is, People, US Weekly, you name it and I've purchased it. I haven't ever been to the Perez Hilton website though, surprising even to myself. After your post and some looking around on the website I am disgusted at the lengths that the paparrazi are willing to go to get a "good" story for a magazine or website. It's sad how much time people like me spend on these crazy celebrities, and why? When is the craziness going to end?
Ok, I'm utterly obsessed with Perez, which might actually also reveal that I'm a loser. I have been known to check out the site up to 10 times a day; if there is a computer nearby, I'm checking. I used to bash the site when my other friends would talk about it, but then I got addicted just like the rest of them! I'm not sure why I go there as much as a do, but I'm sure it has to do with our "fascination" with celebrities and our tendency (as a culture) to criticize them. I'm just saying this because I value honesty, and I would be lying if I said that I don't pay attention to celebrity gossip. I do, but not because I don't value my own life or I want to laugh at celebrities when they do something "wrong." It's just interesting to me that Perez is such a (dick)... and that much of our culture has made his celeb site part of their daily routine.
